Los Angeles Native, Charlie Richey is a highly skilled jazz vocalist, songwriter, and arranger. She regularly gigs throughout the Los Angeles area, working with a wide array of artists in recording sessions and live shows, performing in duo, quartet, and as large as big band configurations.
Charlie specializes in lyrical writing for instrumental jazz standards, expanding the repertoire of a jazz vocalist. She brings her heartfelt lyricism to every musical situation. As a composer, Charlie enjoys melding the worlds of American folk music, European classical music, and Jazz.
In addition to her work as a musician, Charlie is deeply committed to education. She works in a special needs program in Downey CA, Dinjes Music Program, helping students learn, connect, explore, and find their own voice within music. Charlie also teaches privately, working one on one with students of varying age ranges to develop their sound vocally as well as on the piano.
She currently attends the University of Southern California as a jazz studies major, with a music production minor, at the Thornton School of Music. Charlie is a multidisciplinary musician who began studying classical piano at the age of three and vocal training, concentrating in musical theater, at the age of seven. Through her expansive knowledge in various genres, Charlie developed a deep admiration and appreciation of the unique American art form of jazz at a young age, falling in love with the vocal virtuosity of Nat King Cole and Anita O’ Day. She has accredited her success to coveted mentors, such as Terri Weiss, Rene Urbanovich, Bill Cantos, Katie Thiroux, Otmaro Ruiz, Josh Nelson, and Luciana Souza.
